Does it actually help?

Built on the study methods with the strongest evidence, and measured on our own students.

Making notes and flashcards isn’t the point. Remembering more in less time is. So Unizy is built around two methods with decades of research behind them, and it measures whether they’re working for each student.

The research behind it

Testing yourself beats rereading.

Students who practised recalling a text remembered more of it a week later than students who spent the same time rereading it.

Roediger & Karpicke (2006), Psychological Science
Spacing reviews out beats cramming.

A review of hundreds of experiments found that spreading study over time leads to better long-term memory than the same study in one block.

Cepeda et al. (2006), Psychological Bulletin
These two methods top the rankings.

A major review of ten common study techniques rated practice testing and spaced practice as the most useful, and rereading and highlighting among the least.

Dunlosky et al. (2013), Psychological Science in the Public Interest

In Unizy: topic tests and flashcards are practice testing; the review schedule, lecture check-ins and planned reviews are spaced practice.

Unizy’s own results

Measured from students’ real study data and shown only as anonymous totals. We publish each figure only once at least 20 students contribute to it.

Every student also sees their own measured progress in the app: score changes on retested topics, how many reviewed cards they still knew, their active study time and, in medicine, how often they get unseen questions right a week later.
